S&D Group: ‚Dutch elections a clear pro-European signal and a blow for nationalists‘
This morning the results of the elections in the Netherlands have been made public. With 41 seats for Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s liberal VVD party and 39 seats for Diederik Samson’s social democratic PvdA party, the people have voted in favour of a pro-European course.Recently polls had suggested a strengthening of the extreme parties in the country, supporting anti-European positions.
Commenting on the outcome, S&D Group President Hannes Swoboda said:
„I am pleased to see that populist and nationalist parties have failed in the Netherlands.
„The PvdA, which is a member of the S&D Group within the European Parliament, was very successful and increased its votes by running with a realistic, pro-European programme.
„The Dutch elections show that it is possible to win elections with a clear and pro-European programme. This is a good sign for social democracy in Europe.“

S&D Fractie: Nederlandse verkiezingen zijn een duidelijk pro-Europees signaal en een terugslag voor de nationalisten
De verkiezingen in Nederland resulteren in 41 zetels voor de VVD van premier Mark Rutte en 39 zetels voor de PvdA van Diederik Samson. Hiermee hebben de Nederlandse kiezers een pro-Europees signaal afgegeven.
Recentelijk lieten de polls nog een versterking van extreme partijen zien die anti-Europese posities innamen.
S&D Fractievoorzitter Hannes Swoboda gaf het volgende commentaar:
Ik ben zeer verheugd met de verkiezingsnederlaag van de populisten en nationalisten in Nederland.
De PvdA, onderdeel van de S&D Fractie in het Europees Parlement, was bijzonder succesvol en versterkt haar positie op basis van een pro-Europees programma.
De Nederlandse verkiezingen laten zien dat het mogelijk is verkiezingen te winnen met een duidelijke pro-Europese politiek. Dit is goed nieuws voor de Europese Sociaaldemocratie.
