S&D Fraktion fordert den neuen Papst auf, sein Pontifikat für die Stärkung der sozialen Gerechtigkeit und der persönlichen Freiheiten zu nutzen

Aus Anlass der Messe zur Amtseinführung von Papst Franziskus forderte die Sozialdemokratische Fraktion im Europäischen Parlament das neue Oberhaupt der katholischen Kirche auf, seine Macht dafür zu nutzen, Gleichheit und Gerechtigkeit in der ganzen Gesellschaft, einschließlich religiöser und nichtreligiöser Menschen, zu stärken.

Hannes Swoboda, Vorsitzender der S&D Fraktion, sagte dazu: „In der Religion wie auch in der Politik hat ein neues Oberhaupt die Chance, eine neue Richtung für seine Organisation vorzugeben. Ich wünsche Papst Franziskus alles Gute mit seinen neuen Verantwortlichkeiten, aber ich rufe ihn auf, sein Amt dazu zu nutzen, die dringenden Probleme anzugehen und zu verbessern, denen die katholische Kirche gegenübersteht.

Ich hoffe, dass Papst Franziskus die Bekämpfung der Pädophilie innerhalb der katholischen Kirche zu einer Priorität macht und die Organisation als Ganzes modernisiert. Dazu zählen auch einige ihrer Ansichten über die Rechte der Frauen und Minderheiten, einschließlich Lesben, Schwule, Bisexuelle und Transsexuelle. Papst Franziskus hat jetzt die einzigartige Gelegenheit, die katholische Kirche zu einer Kirche für die Menschen, und nicht für die Vergangenheit, zu machen.“

S&D Group calls on new Pope to use his papacy to strengthen social justice and personal freedom

On the occasion of the inaugural mass of Pope Francis, the Socialists and Democrats Group in the European Parliament has called on the new head of the Catholic Church to use his powers to strengthen equality and justice across all of society, including both religious and non-religious people.
Hannes Swoboda, president of the S&D Group, said: „In religion as in politics, a new leader has the opportunity to set a new direction for their organisation. I wish Pope Francis well with his new responsibilities, but I urge him to use his office to address and improve the pressing issues facing the Catholic Church.

„I hope Pope Francis will make the fight against paedophilia within the Catholic Church a priority and modernise the organisation as a whole – including some of its views on the rights of women and minorities, including LGBT people. Pope Francis now has the unique opportunity to make the Catholic Church a church for the people, rather than for the past.“
