Socialists and Democrats Group calls for EU-US trade talks to be put on hold

Following recent revelations about the US authorities spying on EU institutions and representatives, the Socialists and Democrats Group has decided to call on the European Commission to hold off on negotiations for an EU-US Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

Hannes Swoboda, president of the S&D Group in the European Parliament, said:

„The Socialists and Democrats Group unanimously agreed to call on the European Commission to delay TTIP negotiations until the US authorities have made fully disclosed the details of their spying activities. We need credible assurances from the Americans that all such activities have been permanently discontinued.“
